What are Relationship or Synastry Charts?
The
word synastry is made of the Greek prefix syn,
meaning 'a bringing together' and astron, meaning 'star'.
One of the most important tasks as consultant astrologers is to advise,
through interpretation, the charts of human relationships.
Intuitive abilities of the astrologer play a role in interpretation
but not without their skills being finely honed from years of practical
experience and research. This crucial to the astrologer's credibility
and development.
Again, the reading
of any type of astrological charts is all about the potential influence
of energies surrounding the issue or in this case the relationship of
two human beings. Free will / free choice are ultimately the action of
consciously sifting through the information database provided by the astrologer
and making the necessary informed decisions.
Synastry readings are often necessary when issues of import have come
up in a couple's or group's life. Another
use of the these charts are for people who are combining their energies
in a partnership. Erecting a chart for the timing of the merge and those
involved can enlighten the themes and potential choices the new partnership
may encounter.
What
is needed to do a compatability chart or synastry chart is all the natal
charts of the individual's involved. [NOTE: Because of
IRAI's ethical commitment, written permission from both or all parties
involved will be required in order to do this evaluation.] We are
able to analyze group charts as well for business, friendship and romantic
concerns.
There
are two ways we erect charts in dealing with relationships. If its a married
couple we would first cast the natal charts for both. We then superimposed
both charts for a bi-wheel picture and analyze the dialog the planets
have between each chart.
This method is called relationship COMPARISON. The process examines the individual natal charts and compares the various important factors. Factors like Partner A's Moon position to Partner B's Sun position, and what aspects are formed by the positions lends itself to interpretation. Mars and Venus position have a strong role as well. There are many other considerations that are better elaborated in the Resource Center of this site. To get an idea how this would look, visualize that each chart is a transparency and is placed on top of each other. This aids in interpreting the aspects and the compatibility of the two people. Next we would then cast the composite chart to see what the relationship is as its own entity reveals.
The COMPOSITE method involves viewing where all the planets of each natal chart lay. The process of calculating the midpoint between the two charts of planets creates a third chart, the composite chart. This is a derived chart does not really exist in time or space.
We then would progress the composite chart to the here and now and see what events the transits may have that are influence the partnership energy.
For groups of more than two, the process most likely would be focused on the Composite chart.
